The temple from the days of the Koryo dynasty, is situated in Mt Myohyang, Hyangsan County, North Phyongan Province.

It was first built in 1042 and was rebuilt in 1765.

According to the instructions of President Kim Il Sung, the archives of the 80 000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scriptures was built here.

The Pohyon Temple is associated with the patriotic struggle of the Korean ancestors to defend their country.
