It is called Kaesong Koryo insam or Kaesong insam as it has been cultivated in the Kaesong area since olden times.
Insam has been known as a special medicinal herb since the period of the Three Kingdoms and used as an excellent tonic since the period of the feudal Joson dynasty.
The Kaesong area, suitable for insam cultivation for its fertile soil and good climatic, natural and geographical conditions, has been the centre of insam cultivation and processing.
