Mt. Chilbo is one of the six celebrated mountains of Korea, which is called “the Kumgang in North Hamgyong Province” from olden times.
Its main peak is Sangmae Peak (1 103 m). The Chilbo covers an area of about 250 ㎢, and is divided into Inner Chilbo, Outer Chilbo and Sea Chilbo according to their sceneries.
Outer Chilbo is characterized by the beauty of mountains and valleys, while Inner Chilbo is featured by beautiful landscape. Sea Chilbo has a unique coastal beauty.
Mt. Chilbo area has such relics as the Kaesim temple, a rest home, Outer Chilbo Hotel and lodging houses.
