Pyongyang is the capital city of the DPRK and the centre of its politics, economy, culture and tourism.
In Pyongyang there is President Kim Il Sung’s birthplace at Mangyongdae.
Typical monuments are the Grand Monument on Mansu Hill, the Tower of the Juche Idea, the Arch of Triumph, the Monument to Party Founding, the Monument to the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War, the Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification, the Chollima Statue, the Tower of Friendship and the Tower of National Liberation.
There are also educational institutes, including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun Conservatory, the Grand People’s Study House, the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace and the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace, and museums and exhibition houses, such as the Korean Revolution Museum, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, the Three Revolutions Exhibition House, the Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Exhibition House, the Korean Central History Museum and the Korean Art Gallery.
Tourists can see the artistic performance by famous art troupes at such theatres as the People’s Theatre, the Mansudae Art Theatre, the Pyongyang Grand Theatre, the East Pyongyang Grand Theatre, the State Theatre, the Moranbong Theatre, the Pyongyang Acrobatic Theatre, the April 25 House of Culture and the Central Youth Hall. They can also play sports and amusement games at the May Day Stadium, Kim Il Sung Stadium, the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, the Ice Rink, the Pyongyang Gold Lane and gymnasiums in the Chongchun Street.
Tourists will also visit the Pyongyang Metro called an underground palace, and the US armed spy ship Pueblo that was captured while perpetrating espionage act in territorial waters of the DPRK.
Pyongyang has many historic relics, including the Mausoleum of King Tangun, founding father of the Korean nation, and the Mausoleum of King Tongmyong, the founder of Koguryo that was a power in the East, the Taedong Gate, the Ryongwang Pavilion, the Ulmil Pavilion, the Sungnyong Hall and the Kwangbop Temple.
In Pyongyang are such famous restaurants and hotels as the Okryu Restaurant, the Chongnyu Restaurant, the Hyangmannu Restaurant, the Italian Dish Specialty Restaurant, the Changgwang Restaurant Street, the Pyongyang Koryo Hotel, the Yanggakdo International Hotel, the Ryanggang Hotel, and the Chongnyon Hotel, providing kind service to visitors.
