Independence—Immutable Course of DPRK

Seventy years have passed since the DPRK announced its founding to the whole world on September 9, 1948.
On this occasion, the Korean people look back upon the immortal exploits performed by the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il who built on this land the powerful country of Juche which is demonstrating its dignified prestige on the strength of independence.
President Kim Il Sung founded the DPRK and led it along the road of victory, creating a model for building an independent and sovereign state in the political history of the world.
In the period between the late 19th century and the early 20th century when the vast areas of Asia, Africa and Latin America were being dismembered into colonies by the scrambles of imperialist powers for more colonies, Korea was also reduced into a ruined nation due to the military occupation of the Japanese imperialists.
At this juncture, Kim Il Sung, who embarked on the road of revolution in his early years, advanced a revolutionary ideology and line of independence for the first time in history, and led the anti-Japanese armed struggle to victory and won back his lost country.
Since then the Korean people ushered in a new era of living and developing independently as the masters of their own destiny.
With Korea’s liberation (August 15, 1945) just around the corner, some people in several countries doubted whether the Korean people could build a state without the help of others. Despite the apprehensions at home and abroad, Kim Il Sung pushed aside all obstructions of anti-reunification forces and national chauvinists and founded the DPRK, an independent and sovereign state ardently desired by the entire Korean nation.
From the outset of its founding, the DPRK was faced with vicious challenges of hostile forces and manifold trials of history.
Great-power chauvinists resorted to all sorts of appeasement and pressure on the DPRK and the imperialists were hell-bent on their attempt to unleash a war in a bid to check its advance.
Kim Il Sung firmly defended the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation by leading the three-year-long Fatherland Liberation War to victory and consistently held fast to the principle of independence in the whole period of leading the revolution.
He put forward the lines of building an independent national economy and simultaneously conducting economic construction and building up defences to be firmly maintained by the DPRK in its activities.
With his extraordinary foresight he led the country to demonstrate its sovereignty and dignity in spite of all manner of trials of history and its might as a socialist country of Juche, independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence.
Credit for this must go to his steadfast spirit of independence.
In the 1990s when the imperialists went to the extreme in their attempt at isolating and stifling the DPRK, Chairman Kim Jong Il invariably held up the banner of independence to staunchly safeguard Juche-oriented socialism by dint of Songun, and laid solid foundations for national prosperity.
Under his wise leadership, the DPRK consolidated rock-solid its political and military might, opened up a breakthrough for building a socialist power and enhanced its international prestige and influence remarkably.
As a result, the last century, which might have ended with “failure” of socialism, shined with the victory of socialism.
The exploits performed by Kim Jong Il who clarified the great truth of independence for billions of people throughout the world will shine for all ages.
Thanks to the line of independence and wise guidance of the great leaders, the DPRK could invariably follow the road of independence, frustrating every move of the allied imperialist forces to suffocate it and staunchly safeguarding the red flag of socialism and the gains of the revolution.
Today, under the guidance of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, another peerlessly great man, the DPRK has emerged as a powerful nation, a power of independence, which safeguards regional and global peace and security and international justice.
Under the leadership of Kim Jong Un who holds fast to independence, Songun and socialism as the permanent strategy of the Korean revolution, the DPRK, under the unfurled banner of self-reliance and self-development, has made the greatest achievements even in the worst situation over the past six years.   The Korean people will, in the future, too, record only victory in the annals of their history, invariably advancing along the road of independence.
